Postpartum and Antepartum Doula Care

A LOVING TOUCH DOULA CARE provides care and support for the new parent, their newborn and their family during this amazing transition in their lives. I offer breastfeeding education, (I am a certified lactation counselor) or bottle feeding support, newborn care and guidance, encouragement, emotional and educational support, parent coaching, nutritional needs; such as cooking and meal preparation, newborn development education and guidance through the postpartum period and beyond. Each clients schedule is customized based on their specific needs on any given day.

As an antepartum doula, I support the mother who may or may not have been put on bed rest because of a high risk pregnancy. I would support her towards her goal of bringing her pregnancy as close to full term as possible. Similar to a postpartum doula, I will take care of your nutritional needs and support you in any way I can.

I am a non-medical care provider.

About Linda

First and foremost, I am a mother of four wonderful children, three boys and a girl. My pregnancies were all great, my deliveries were relatively smooth and I nursed them all for about a year. I was surrounded by family and friends and had endless amounts of support, but that was years ago. Families no longer live near each other and many family members work and are unable to provide the additional care and support you may need at this time. Your partner may have to return to work soon after the birth and would like to know you have the care that is beneficial to your healing process. This is why I became a doula.

I began helping friends after their first births, offering breastfeeding advice, sharing ideas and information I had learned or gained from my own experience. All this knowledge is invaluable to a new parent and I loved to share what I was learning with them.

The need for doulas is great. The postpartum depression rate drops when you are empowered with the knowledge to care for yourself and your newborn. The confidence you acquire with the help of a doula will carry into your relationship with your children, well into their futures.

I am a certified postpartum doula, having trained with CAPPA (Childbirth and Postpartum Professional Association). I am CPR certified through the Red Cross annually. I am a Certified Newborn Care Specialist, a Certified Lactation Counselor and an Infant Massage Instructor. I am insured. I have been caring for families professionally since 2001. I have many happy parents and wonderful babies, toddlers and adolescents calling me Auntie Linda, who would all love to share their experiences of having me as their doula. Please call or write for an updated reference list.

What Is A Doula and What Do You Do?

A doula is a friend, relative or a neighbor that comes to care for you after your baby has arrived.  The first few weeks after the birth of a newborn can be a very trying period for you and your family. There is so much to learn and both you and your baby are new at this! Having the emotional and educational support of a doula can make this time a more enjoyable and rewarding transitional experience for you. You will be more relaxed and sure of yourself, as all your questions will be answered immediately by an experienced and knowledgeable doula. You will have time to bond with your baby, rest, shower and eat.

A postpartum doula provides breastfeeding or bottle feeding support, emotional support, infant care and advice, and provides informational and educational resources to the new parent and her family. I will do errands, light household tasks and cooking, if there is time, as your nutritional needs are very important during this time of healing. With my support and guidance if you are breastfeeding, you will develop an ideal nursing relationship with your baby/babies in a stress free environment.

Bottle feeding has its own educational elements to learn as well. This will be covered in depth as well as scheduling the feedings.

Consulations and Visits

Consultations before a contract is signed is approximately one hour long and takes place in your home. This consult will offer me insight into what you may be looking for in the way of care. The postpartum period that I generally cover is between six and twelve weeks. During this time, I may come to your home daily for half of a day (four hours) or longer, perhaps six-eight hours. This will be assessed during our consult together. I may stay and care for you for five days, five weeks or longer. Each family has different dynamics and this will determine my length of service. Once a decision has been made on the allotted time of service, a contract will be put in place to assure both parties of an exact time saved for care.

You may decide you do not need a doula to visit your home daily, yet you are still unsure about how to care for your precious newborn you are going to be bringing home. How often do I feed her and how do I know she has had enough to eat? Is he gaining weight? How do I give him a bath with the umbilical cord attached and what do I do when it falls off? What about sleeping and schedules, burping and spitting up? Swaddling… to do or not? Feeding positions and fussiness ….. and when will I take a shower???

Relax…. all of this takes time and patience to figure out. You are both new at this. I can visit with you once or twice a week or every other week to give you the peace of mind you need to assure you are learning everything you need to know.

Newborn Care Specialist

As a Newborn Care Specialist, I provide postpartum education and support for parents. I assist in all aspects of newborn care, such as bringing the newborn to mom to breastfeed, feeding and cleaning of bottles, changing and caring for the umbilical cord, circumcision or Bris care for boys, bathing, infant laundry, soothing and sleep conditioning, all nursery care and nursery organization and anything else that may pertain to the newborn only. I only offer day hours, but I will help you find overnight care if needed.

TESTIMONIALS

From wonderful clients since 2001

Linda is a wonderful and loving doula! An absolute blessing! We met when I was pregnant with my twin girls and my older daughters were 5 and 7. Her guidance, wisdom and knowledge helped me tremendously. My immediate anxiety over bringing the twins home was put to ease knowing that I had Linda. She lovingly cared for me and my babies. She encouraged me and guided me through nursing twins and always making sure I was hydrated and fed. Not only did she care for my entire family, but she made sure my household was managed and running smoothly when I was unable to. Her knowledge with multiples in particular was extremely valuable and I can not imagine raising my twins without her! My twins are now three years old and Linda has become a part of our family. My older daughters love her and value the time they spend with her. I consider her a very dear friend and she continues to help me with my four daughters! She’s amazing! I highly recommend her!                                KC 2015

Loving Touch Doula is amazing service for postpartum moms. My experience with Linda was amazing. I felt like my mom is there with me during my postpartum days. She cooked amazing and yumm food for me. She teach me how to nurse baby in different ways. She is full of knowledge. I had peaceful nights. She helped me finding all resources that are going to help me in future. I am so glad that I found Loving Touch Doula for me and my baby. I am going to miss u soooo much, Linda. Today was her last day of service with me. My heart was sinking with the thought of separation from her. She made me a confident mom. But I will always need your advice, Linda. I love you, and I am going to miss you.                               KV 2015

Thank Gd for Linda. She helped us in so many ways, its amazing. We hired her as a postpartum doula and newborn care specialist (which is special in itself, because not many people can do both). She nursed me back to health after my C-section while caring so lovingly for my little boy. She taught us how to organize baby things, gave great recommendations on baby items, and taught us how to care for our baby. She helped me learn how to nurse as well, including recommending a bottle that solved my breastfeeding problem. She also helped with my nieces and did an amazing job getting them on a sleep schedule and sleeping through the night by four months. Having Linda felt like having an aunt, a friend, a nurse, and a therapist here at a time when I needed them all. I honestly can’t recommend her enough.  JZ 2018

As a single new mom, I couldn’t have done it without Linda’s help!! I would have given up nursing 100 times if not for her support and encouragement, all while making sure I was comfortable, fed, house and dog were taken care of, and baby was taken care of better than I could have imagined! She taught me things I never knew I would have to learn or even thought of, like organizing all our things.  Her kind and gentle personality was never overwhelming (as I anticipated it would be, since I was against having ANY help at first!…. What was I thinking???) I would have been lost without the amazing support of a doula and would highly recommend Linda to anyone and everyone who is pregnant or has a baby! (I even got a shower and slept every day after giving birth and was able to nurse for seven months thanks to Linda’s ongoing support!)We were VERY lucky to have such a wonderful help!!                                                      SE 2014

I don’t know what I would have done without Linda. At 20 weeks I was diagnosed with a condition that would require me to give birth surgically. With a c-section eminent, we were in complete shock. We had no idea what to do. We knew we needed help, but we never had help before and didn’t know where to turn. We’ve never so much as hired a babysitter! I thought a doula was for assistance during childbirth. Boy, was I wrong! I learned about postpartum doulas from my OB/GYN. Sometimes, if you’re lucky, they are covered under insurance. If you have ever or are currently considering hiring a postpartum doula, hire this woman! She is highly professional and educated in the realm of infant/toddler/postpartum mother care, super kind and generous and she knows what you need before you even ask. Need I say more? Okay….. she’ll also cook for you and play with your older child while you tend to your baby and yourself. or, she’ll snuggle with your baby, while you play with your older child. Basically, she’ll do whatever you need her to do to help. If this sounds too good to be true, I totally understand, but trust me; she’s for real. We ALL miss her every day.
